Dear Chieftain family:
As you know, members of the Calumet team have worked hard this summer to prepare the best possible plan for the 2020-21 school year. We are grateful to the many parents, teachers, community members, support staff, and students who provided valuable input and ideas to help shape the plan.
Our decisions throughout this process have been guided by the following principle: protect the health and safety of our staff and students, while also offering the best educational services possible. A copy of our back-to-school plan, which provides in-person and virtual options for students, can be found by visiting: https://www.chs.k12.ok.us/article/483202 .
School begins on August 12th, and we can’t wait to welcome students. We have adopted the following safety guidelines for those who will be attending class on campus:
Face Coverings
Masks and face coverings are recommended but are NOT required.
Social Distancing
It is our goal to continue to keep students socially distanced as much as possible. This will include in the classroom, cafeteria, and on the buses.
Deep Cleaning/Sanitization
Calumet will continue to deep clean and sanitize classrooms, buses, and equipment on a daily basis.
Handwashing and Hand Sanitizer
Hand sanitizing stations are readily available and located in each classroom and throughout the school facility.
School Visitors/Drop Off/ Pick Up
Visitors will not be allowed in the school buildings during school hours. Parents will be asked to drop off and pick up students outside the front doors.
Public Events/School Activities
We will continue to monitor the outbreak status for our area and our state. We will communicate procedures associated with School Events and School Activities.
Virtual Learning (All Students)
Should it become necessary that we go virtual- students will be given devices and access to learning and instruction virtually.
Positive Cases
We will continue to work with the Canadian County Health Department, as well as the Oklahoma State Department of Health to identify and notify positive cases and exposures. Calumet Public School will continue to be transparent and honest about any and all safety situations.
We understand these new guidelines will be an adjustment for everyone involved, and we are here to answer your questions and to help with your concerns. Please contact your school principal for additional information and assistance.
Our goal is to make the school year safe, productive, and enjoyable. Every piece of our plan has been developed out of care and concern for the safety, health, and wellbeing of students, staff, and the community.
We want to thank you again for your patience and flexibility. Although it will look and feel different than it has in the past, together, we will do everything possible to make the 2020-21 school year a safe, successful, and positive experience for Calumet students. We appreciate your support.
Sincerely,
Brandon Voss
