Today is the deadline for the national ACT test on April 13. Students/parents can goto http://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/registration.html to register. Please call the high school office for our school code. All students on the free and reduced lunch program are eligible for 2 fee waivers in high school to take the ACT for free. Please see Ms. Lippencott for these. They are available for the next testing date on June 8. Please be sure that students read the link above to make sure all required materials are taken on testing day. *Failing to do so will mean a student will be turned away at the door.
All juniors will take the ACT as part of state testing, for free, on April 4 at the school.

American Foreign Service Association (AFSA) National High School Essay Contest
Deadline: March 15, 2019
The United States has many tools to advance and defend its foreign policy and national security interests around the world-from diplomatic approaches pursued by members of the Foreign Service, to the range of options available to the U.S. military. In countries affected by or vulnerable to violent conflict, peacebuilding tools are important additions to the national security toolkit. In a 1,000-1,250-word essay, identify two cases-one you deem successful and one you deem unsuccessful-where the U.S. pursued an integrated approach to build peace in a conflict-affected country. Students whose parents are not in the Foreign Service are eligible to participate if they are in grades nine through twelve in any of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. territories, or if they are U.S. citizens attending high school overseas. Students may be attending a public, private, or parochial school. Entries from home-schooled students are also accepted. The winner receives $2,500, a trip to Washington, D.C., and an all-expense paid educational voyage courtesy of Semester at Sea.

VFW Auxiliary Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest
Deadline: March 31, 2019
Each year, more than 3,500 high school students from across the country participate in the VFW Auxiliary Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest. The contest began in 1979 to recognize up-and-coming artists and encourage patriotism in youth. This scholarship is open to any student in grades 9-12 who is enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program in the United States. The first-place winner from each state competes for national awards totaling $29,500.

The sophomore class, along with his teachers and the administration of CHS, put together a hospital care package for Bradley Shumate, who will spend the next few months in and out of the hospital. He is currently awaiting a kidney transplant.
